Emmett’s body was discarded in the Tallahatchie River. His killers hoped the river would erase him, but instead it returned him to us. The walk begins there to honor both the horror of his death and the resilience of his memory.

In 1955, Emmett was shipped home in a cold box, not carried in the loving hands of family. By walking, we symbolically carry him with care, returning him to Mamie as he should have been.

The Till Institute is a national educational organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley through youth leadership, truth-telling, and public memory programs. We transform history into action by equipping new generations to carry forward justice, remembrance, and civic responsibility.
